@aapicenter.net
Who are you really? Do you live in the hyphen between cultures, neither 100% this, not 100% that? Do you sometimes feel left out or forgotten in discussions about race? Not Black, not white. And with the attacks targeting members of AAPI communities in recent years, you may be feeling heartbroken, hurt, maybe angry, too.
These AAPI-centric groups offer a safe place to process reactions to the worlds you navigate, as well as to explore desires you’ve kept suppressed as a result of a lifetime of honoring your parents’ or other elder’s wishes, or because you have a strong instinct to care for others, often at the expense of yourself. Maybe you are or have been good at academic achievement, but relationships are rougher-going territory. Join us as you find your voice, give and get support and encouragement, find a safe environment where you can start to take healthy risks. Gather and tell your story, share your dreams, be reflected, feel connected.
Attention is given to helping you notice and process your own internal sensations, helping you to better self-regulate. This can be a great adjunct to individual therapy. If you are currently looking for an individual therapist, participating in the group can help prepare you to get the most out of therapy if and when you pursue deeper individual work.
Groups are run on a Zoom-based platform called Secure Video (you need Zoom on your device and a private space) and group enrollment is limited to 5 or 6 people, giving ample time for each member to speak, and then to receive reflective feedback and support.
Hyphenated No More runs for 2 hours from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time on Fridays. It will run every other week for a total of 12 meetings. Next 12-week group TBD.
Note: While there may be extreme circumstances when there is a need to postpone or shift dates, I would like to stick to this schedule as much as possible.
